SHILLONG: The UDP-led Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) has decided to field a candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-poll scheduled on April 18.
The decision to this effect was taken during the MPF meeting on Monday, sources informed on Tuesday.
Sources also informed that the MPF is contemplating to seek the support of the HSPDP in this regard.
“We are going to meet on Saturday evening to formally announce the name of the MPF candidate,” party sources said while adding that the MPF candidate would file his nomination papers on April 8.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is scheduled to meet AICC leaders and a Union Minister to discuss issues concerning the Rajya Sabha by-poll in Meghalaya.
