SHILLONG: Suspected ANVC-B militants numbering around twelve on Monday shot dead one Benjamin Marak of Rongbingre, Williamnagar, while the deceased was on a picnic with his brother and friend at Mrik Wari along the Simsang River in East Garo Hills.

East Garo Hills SP JFK Marak informed that around 3 PM on Monday a group of twelve unidentified persons, suspected to be ANVC (B) militants, accosted the trio and began assaulting Benjamin. Out of fear his brother (Takuring Marak) and friend (Edwin Sangma) fled from the spot. Later, they heard two gun shots and when they went back to the picnic spot they found the body of Benjamin Marak.

“A case has been registered and investigation is on,” the SP said.
