SHILLONG: The completion of the Rs 22 crore slaughter house project at Mawlai Mawiong is likely to miss the April, 2013deadline even as the formal commission of the project is expected only by December.

Official sources informed on Wednesday that the contractor who is implementing the project has sought a fresh deadline, possibly June, for completing the project.

“We are not very sure that the project would be completed in June. However, we are keeping a tentative target to formally commission the project in December,” official sources added.

Earlier, the then Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, BM Lanong, after a spot inspection of the on-going construction work in January last, had informed that the project would be complete by April citing that only 20 per cent of the work is left. Reacting to a query on the opposition of the two Dorbar Shnong in Mawiong, official sources said that a case has been filed against the department by the Dorbar Shnong last year but there has been no follow up in this regard.

The abattoir would have a capacity of 160 large animals, 240 pigs and 240 small animals (goats) per day.
