SHILLONG: Sushabhan Choudhury, Dean and Professor at the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of North Eastern Hill University refuted the fake degree allegations levelled against him and has clarified his stand in the matter.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Sushabhan Choudhury gave all the details of his degree and the thesis saying that the thesis has been acknowledged by Dr. B Karmakar, the then Secretary of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jadavpur University.

According to Choudhury, his thesis was meticulously adjudicated by all the experts appointed by the University and they recommended his name for awarding Ph.D. Degree in Engineering from Jadavpur University with the observation that the work carried out by him is explorative and original.

It may be mentioned that the Jadavpur University Students Union (JUSU) has alleged that Choudhury failed to acquire a PhD degree from Jadavpur University in 2006 and his PhD thesis was cancelled.

As per allegations, Choudhury manipulated his PhD on the letterhead of Dr B Karmakar, Principal

Secretary, Jadavpur University.

However, Choudhury said that he duly appeared in the said Viva-Voce examination of the University at the scheduled time and date fixed by the concerned authorities and he cleared the examination, following which, a provisional Certificate was issued in his favour by Dr. B Karmakar. “I communicated with the Jadavpur University Students Union regarding this and they declined to have anything to do with the matter,” he said.
