DC-level meet to defuse tension in disputed Block-II areas

SABUDA: With an aim to diffuse the ongoing tension in Block-II areas, the deputy commissioners of Ri-Bhoi District and Karbi Anglong District of Assam held meeting at Irrigation IB in Sabuda on Thursday afternoon.

The Meghalaya team was led by Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akash Deep Singh and Superintendent of Police CVS Reddy and included Extra Assistant Commissioner R Kharbihkhiew, DSP (Traffic) BK Biswas and Umsning BDO D Syiemiong.

The delegation from Karbi Anglong comprised Deputy Commissioner PK Buragohain, Superintendent of Police NN Goswami, SDO (Civil) I Hussain and Circle Inspector M Saikia.

Talking to The Shillong Times after the meeting, Akash Deep said that he had demanded immediate halt of construction of the entrance gate and the SBI building at Sabuda and also registered strong protest over destruction of the MNREGS road from Jatalong to Umjaknieh and demanded action from the Karbi Anglong administration against the culprits.

He also said that the Karbi Anglong DC assured that he would take up the matter with the Assam Government regarding the construction of the entrance gate and the SBI Building as well as action against the culprits responsible for the destruction of the road.

Akash Deep also informed that his Karbi Anglong counterpart would conduct an inspection of the damaged road.

On the issue of the raid by Assam police personnel on the residence of Sabuda Rangbah Shnong B Sohtun, Akash Deep informed that the Assam police personnel wanted information from the Rangbah Shnong on reports of possible dismantling the gate and the SBI building.

Before the meeting, Akash Deep and his team conducted a spot inspection of the MNREGS road which was destroyed by Assam police.
