SHILLONG: An under-trial prisoner who was an accused in a rape case was found dead inside his cell in Tura jail, a delayed report said on Friday.
According to police, the Superintendent of District Jail Tura, JJ Sangma, lodged an FIR at Tura Police Station that the under-trial prisoner (UTP) identified as Emphu B Marak, who was lodged at the Jail in connection with a rape case, died on March 31.
Declining to say anything further on the incident, a police official said, “We are waiting for the post mortem reports.”
Police are looking into the records to find out details of the rape involving the UTP.
