JOWAI: The Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills, honoured the village defence parties (VDP) of Pdein-Iadaw and Lumkya for assisting the District Police.
Informing that VDP members of Pdein-iadaw recently apprehended a murder accused, West Jaintia Hills SP, H Lyngdoh said, “Such activities of the VDP members has helped the District Police and they should be appreciated”.
Lyngdoh was attending a VDP Rally which was attended by around 280 VDP volunteers at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong on Monday.
The rally was organized by the Office of the West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police and also attended by the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Peter S Dkhar among others.
While inaugurating the rally, Dkhar said, “VDP volunteers should not be biased in dealing with cases from their respective villages and should not take the law into their own hands.” Dkhar also lauded the womenfolk who enrolled themselves as active members of the VDP in many villages of the district.
