Cyclonic storm hits WKH

 NONGSTOIN: Several houses and a school building at Porla, around 37 km from here, and adjoining areas, were damaged when a cyclonic storm accompanied by lighting hit the area at around 9 pm on Wednesday.

Due to lightning some thatched houses caught fire, the Syiem of Nongstoin, EP Syiem said over the phone.

The villagers who were rendered homeless are taking shelter in a church and school buildings in the area.

Syiem, who runs the Daboklang Giri Standard School at Porla, said that he received information about the damage from the teachers working there.

Electricity went off at Nongstoin and several other places due to the cyclone.

An official with the district administration said that they are yet to get more details about the incident.
