SHILLONG: The police first blamed GNLA for the attack on two jail staff Neil Warjri and SS Thabah on February 2 and subsequently put the responsibility on ANVC (B), but now the Government is claiming that they were ‘unidentified armed miscreants’.

The magisterial probe report into the incident could not establish which militant group was involved in the attack, but it only said that they were armed militants.

In the course of her reply on the call attention motion moved by Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP), Home (Jail) Minister Roshan Warjri said eight to ten armed miscreants were responsible for the incident on February 2 night.

The police now have come under the scanner for their contradicting statements on the identity of the militants involved in the incident.

Questions are also being raised on what prompted the police to confirm that the attack was carried out by ANVC (B) cadres led by Senbirth Marak alias Norok.

The police are yet to arrest anyone involved in the incident, though the magisterial probe reports clearly stated that it is the duty of the police to find out who were involved in the attack.
