Opposition concerned over ground water exploitation

SHILLONG: The Opposition on Thursday expressed concern over the mindless exploitation of ground water in the State by way of rampant drilling.

During the question hour, the HSPDP member Ardent Basaiawmoit pointed that the people are getting muddy water due to the reckless drilling for ground water.

He also brought to the notice of the Government that due to the quarrying of stone and sand in and around Mawphlang, the water supply scheme has also been affected.

The Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in his reply said that the Government was committed to address the concerns raised by the member.

He added that a comprehensive water policy is being worked out by the Government and it will be finalized very soon.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister in charge Water Resources, Rowell Lyngdoh said that the draft water policy was circulated to the stakeholders for consultation.

Civil Service result declaration issue yet to be resolved

SHILLONG: The delay in declaring the results of nomination to Meghalaya Civil Service held on 2009 is yet to be resolved as there are contradictory views between the Government and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) on eligibility of candidates.

Informing the house about the status of this issue during the question hour on Thursday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that the government is having a fresh look into the matter.

Replying to a question raised by Ardent M Basaiawmoit (HSPDP), Dr Sangma said that the number of vacancies has increased and the government is contemplating to increase the sanction at the junior post level.

Meanwhile, replying to a question raised by Paul Lyngdoh (UDP) on the status of the State Government Employees and Pension Database, the chief minister said the scheme is still continuing and the amount of funds allocated for the scheme is 4.65 crore.

He also said that to ensure proper implementation and to have a comprehensive data, there is a proper coordination with the line departments.

Steps undertaken to implement schemes: Dhar

SHILLONG: PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday informed that there are 8 on-going road schemes under the Assistance to States for Infrastructure Development and Exports (ASIDE) schemes even as he maintained that various steps have been taken by the department to ensure completion of the schemes in time.

Replying to a question raised by Donkupar Roy (UDP), Dhar cited that there are various reasons for delay in completion of the schemes adding that various steps are being initiated to ensure completion of the schemes.

Revised pay scale to be effective from Feb 2010: Ampareen

SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister, M Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday informed that the department will implement the revised pay scale of the 4th Pay Commission to its employees with effect from February 2010.

Replying to the questioned raised by Shillong West legislator Paul Lyngdoh, Ampareen said that the department is committed to implement the revised pay scale in respect of the employees even as she informed that the employees has not received their salary for the month of March.

The Urban Affairs minister further informed that the state finance commission may be roped in to improve the financial conditions of all the SMBs.

She also highlighted the grievances and demands of the Shillong Municipal Board Employees association which was communicated to the department on November last year which included release of arrear pay for the period from 2007-2010, payment of CPF, gratuity and other retirement benefits, promotion of vacant posts, regularization of dues from PPP projects, payment of DA, festival advance and children education advance and discontinue of further leasing of municipal property.
