State team win hockey silver in NE Games

SHILLONG: The State men’s hockey team has brought laurels to the State by winning the silver medal in the men’s hockey event of the 27th North East Games.

The men’s hockey team lost to Manipur 2-3 in the gold medal match played at Khuman Lampak Main Stad-ium in Imphal on Thursday.

The achievement of the hockey team is worth praising considering the State does not have a proper hockey ground.

In the bronze medal match, Mizoram defeated Tripura 6-2.

In the league stage, Meghalaya defeated Tripura 12-1, Assam 12-0 and Mizoram 5-3 in the semi-finals.

In the women’s final, Mizoram defeated Manipur 9-1 while Assam won the bronze medal.
