SHILLONG: St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School defeated St Xavier’s Secondary School by a convincing margin of five wickets to lift the 8th IP Das Memorial (Under-16) Inter School Cricket Tournament 2013, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at the Cricket Grounds, Polo, on Saturday.
In the final, St Xavier’s Secondary School won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, that decision went against them as they could only score a low 63 runs in 15 overs.
Bikash Prasad scored 20 while the pick of the bowlers for St Anthony’s was Dipak Tripathi, who took four wickets for 13 runs in his four overs.
In reply, St Anthony’s lost wickets at regular intervals to put the chase in jeopardy, before steadying the ship and reaching the target in 14.5 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Shahil Hussain guided his side with a careful, unbeaten innings of 16 runs from 31 deliveries.
Aryan Bora claimed two wickets for 19 runs in the four overs he bowled for the runners-up.
The prize distribution will take place on the day of the final of the senior category.
