SHILLONG: Though Jorabat-Umiam four lane project is far from over, the woes of the commuters traveling across the highway is yet to come to an end.

Commuters complained that the road condition along the highway has gone from bad to worse as traveling in such stretches can actually be painful.

The deadline of the project is early part of 2014 and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is running against the time to complete the project.

Though black topping is completed in certain stretches, yet there are large stretches where earth cutting is being cleared in the third year of the project.

The commuters who travel frequently on this road have complained of horrible road conditions as many parts of the road are full with potholes.

Leaving apart the poor road conditions, the travellers have to bear the brunt of pollution which has increased tremendously in the entire national highway.

The NHAI also has its reservations as they are still waiting for the additional land for Umsning Bypass and it is learnt that the Government will take another two months time acquire the plot of land.

The project took off at a brisk pace in the year 2010 but it had to deal with controversies in the Umsning stretch after which the work slowed down and till date the project is far from its completion.

“Government and the concerned people should immediately resolve their differences as neither of them suffer but we, the common man suffer while travelling on this road ,” said a tourist vehicle driver who frequents the road.
