SHILLONG: Despite the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) pointing out that the financial position of the State deteriorated in 2011-12 compared to the past four years, the State Government has claimed that it has sufficient money at present.
“We can take care of the salaries and other wages of the employees and there is no reason for worry,” Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, BK Dev Verma said.
He also said that the balance in the transactions of treasury bills indicates that the State is financially sound.
According to the CAG report which was tabled recently in the Assembly, in 2010-11, Meghalaya had a revenue surplus of Rs 247.74 crore, but in 2011-12, the State registered a revenue deficit of Rs 180.34 crore.
The reason was that in 2011-12 there was disproportionate growth of revenue expenditure.
The CAG had also pointed out that committed expenditures like salaries, pensions, interest payments and subsidies continued to consume a major share of revenue expenditure (47.41 per cent) in 2011-12.
Meanwhile, Dev Verma said that there will be a meeting with the Planning Commission next month to finalize the projected State plan size of Rs 4141 crore.
