Mukul spent Rs 4.31 lakh on election campaign

 SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has spent an amount of Rs 4,31,295 in the February 23 Assembly election which he contested from Ampati constituency.

As per the candidates expense details provided by the State Chief Electoral Officer, Dr Sangma spent an amount of Rs 1405 on public rallies and meetings, besides spending Rs 3,84,920 on transportation and Rs 44,970 on other expenditures.

The Chief Minister’s wife, Dikkanchi D Shira, who contested the election from Mahendraganj, spent Rs 4,19,357 which included expenses of Rs 24,200 on public rallies and meetings, Rs 2,39,110 on vehicles, 21,500 on erection of gates, arches, cutouts, banners and Rs 1,34,547 on other expenditures.

In Ri Bhoi district, the richest candidate Ngaitlang Dhar, who contested from Umroi constituency, spent an amount of Rs 5,49,016.

He spent Rs 32,400 on meetings, Rs 19,000 on campaign materials, Rs 4,90,703 on vehicles and Rs 6,913 on other expenditures.

Senior Congress leader and MPCC president DD Lapang, who won from Nongpoh constituency, spent an amount of Rs 6,89,810 which included expenditure of Rs 34,810 on meetings, Rs 2,82,564 on vehicles and Rs 3,72,436 on other expenditures.

The surrendered HNLC chairman Julias Dorphang, who won from Mawhati, spent Rs 1,99,947 which included an amount of Rs 73,542 on campaign materials, Rs 1,00,800 on vehicles and Rs 25,605 on other expenditures.

Congress candidate from Pynthorumkhrah, AL Hek, spent Rs 6,28,948, including Rs 1,66,398 on public meetings and rallies and Rs 4,62,550 on vehicles.

Ampareen Lyngdoh, who contested and won from Shillong East constituency spent an amount of Rs 5020 on rallies besides spending Rs 1,00,750 on campaign materials, Rs 1,08,870 on vehicles , Rs 1600 on erection of gates, arches, cutouts, banners and Rs 2,06,524 as other expenditures.

UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh who contested from Shillong West, spent Rs 48,725 on public meetings, Rs 26,550 on campaign materials, Rs 1,27,580 on vehicles, Rs 33,500 on erection of gates, arches, cutouts and banners and Rs 72,369 on other expenditures.

Veteran HSPDP leader Hoping Stone Lyngdoh who emerged victorious from Nongstoin constituency spent Rs 5,450 on public meetings, Rs 38,630 on camping materials, Rs 78,863 on vehicles, Rs 1,917 on campaign workers and Rs 7,240 on other expenditures.

Speaking to The Shillong Times about the expenditures by the candidates, Chief Electoral Officer P Naik said that the Election department had no knowledge of any candidate who had crossed the expenditure slab of Rs 8 lakh.
