SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MPDCL), despite having put up an advertisement mentioning in details the load shedding hours in various localities in the city and its outskirts, has not been following the routine.
Several people called up the office of The Shillong Times on Friday night and complained that the Corporation was not following the load shedding schedule mentioned in the advertisement.
In certain areas of the city like Rilbong and Bishnupur power was cut at 10 PM despite the fact that the advertisement mentioned the load shedding hours till 6 PM only, whereas in other areas like Mawpat, power supply was on even though load shedding was supposed to be implemented for two hours from 10 PM.
Also, there are discrepancies in the duration of the load shedding mentioned in the advertisement.
The Corporation has stated that the load shedding would be effective for two-three hours on a rotational basis, but the fact is that power is cut off for 6-7 hours throughout the duration of the day.
The Shillong Times tried to contact the MPDCL authorities to verify the details of the load shedding, but the officials refused to comment on the matter, saying that details have been provided in the advertisement.
