JOWAI: Police on Friday arrested one Deibor Sutnga along with his accomplice for allegedly abducting a four-year-old girl from Ladrymbai.
Despite the arrests, the minor girl remained untraced as the accused, who confessed to the crime, could not provide accurate information on the four-year-old’s whereabouts.
Police sources informed that, Sutnga who hails from Deinler village was arrested from his wife’s residence at Mynthlu village, while his accomplice who is a coal mine supervisor from Assam (a Bengali Muslim) was arrested from Byndihati village. It may be mentioned that on April 3 one Skot Mukhim of Ladrymbai received a phone call demanding Rs 30 lakh as ransom for the release of his minor daughter, Iammi Pakma, who was kidnapped.
Sources informed that Mukhim was a daily wage earner and his income ranges from Rs 3000 to Rs 4000 per month.
“It seems that the kidnappers have abducted the wrong girl,” a source said.
Sources informed that another accused, a lady, is yet to be traced and suspected that the minor girl is with her in Block I area or in Borsora in West Khasi Hills.
“The girl might have been transferred to the second party which has demanded of Rs 20 lakh from the poor father of the girl,” sources said while adding that both the accused along with the lady handed over the girl to another party stating that she is a daughter of a coal businessman in Ladrymbai.
“The second party first made a demand of Rs. 3 crore but later came down to Rs 20 lakh,” sources said.
Police are still interrogating the two accused.
