SHILLONG: With a huge backlog of pending cases, doubts have emerged that the inquiry by the State CID into the CMJ University scam may not reach its logical conclusion and demands are being made to hand over the case to an Independent team of investigators or to the CBI.

The state CID is yet to make any break through into the human sacrifice case of Tura of 2011 and moreover, though the issue of chit fund activities related to National Self Employment Mission(MSEM) which set up an office in Shillong was handed over to the CID, there was no outcome of the probe.

There are also several other cases pending with the CID.

The CMJ issue has ramifications outside the State since the University conducts courses elsewhere in the country and awards degrees to students outside the State.

Police officials heading the CID – SK Jain and BR Rana – were contacted over phone for their feedback on the CMJ case, but they did not return the calls.

When asked about the status of the case related to the CMJ University, DGP Prem Singh was also tightlipped.

“Details cannot be given,” he asserted.
