SHILLONG: Following the arrests of the Deputy Registrar and the Registrar of CMJ University, the State CID has asserted of making more arrests in the case.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Advocate IC Jha said that the arrested persons will be produced before the court after their discharge from the Shillong Civil Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

The Deputy Registrar, Premlal Rai, and the Registrar, Mrinal Kanti Deb, have been admitted in Shillong Civil Hospital after they complained of health problems, but the CID believes that the health problem may be a ploy to avoid interrogation.

According to Jha, four bail applications were filed on Friday last, however, on the final day of the hearing, none of the applicants were present and the court subsequently dismissed the bail pleas.

“The Deputy Registrar, who was arrested on Thursday, could not be produced in the court due to his ill health, and the same is the case with the Registrar who was arrested on Friday,” Jha said.

Police have sought 10-day custody of the duo but the court will decide on the matter only after they are produced in the court.

The CID is also on the lookout for Chancellor CM Jha, University Director Manjeet Kaur and Human Resource Manager Juban Kharpuri, who have been absconding.
