SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills finished with a total of seven gold medals on the final day of Megh Meet 2013 at the JN Sports Complex, Polo, on Saturday.
Being the host district, and largest by population, it probably came as no surprise that East Khasi Hills claimed the title of overall district champions in the state-wide event.
In all, 15 gold and 15 silver medals were up for grabs over the course of the meet.
East Khasi Hills also claimed a solitary silver medal, for a grand total of eight medals.
Four of their gold medals were won by the women, with the men claiming three.
Ri-Bhoi came second with three gold and one silver, with South West Khasi Hills in third place (two gold, three silver).
The fourth, fifth and sixth-placed districts all bagged one gold medal each and were separated by their runner-up finishes.
East Jaintia Hills took three silver medals for fourth place, with West Jaintia Hills (two silver) and East Garo Hills (no silver) coming in fifth and sixth, respectively.
West Khasi Hills came in seventh with three silver but no gold and West Garo Hills ended in eighth place with a solitary silver medal, which they earned after going down to East Khasi Hills in teh men’s basketball final on Saturday.
South Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills did not win a medal and will have to look forward to next year to improve on their performance.
