SHILLONG: A police constable of Williamnagar PS, Bubai D Shira (26) was on Friday arrested and suspended for threatening to shoot some youths of Balsrigittim and new Samgong localities in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.

According to police sources, the accused dressed in his uniform, fired three rounds in the air from his AK rifle under the influence of alcohol as an act of revenge for the harassment caused by the youth party who were performing night vigil in these localities.

“He (Bubai) took out the gun without the intimation of the officer in charge and went to the spot with his 17-year-old brother-in-law and shot three rounds in the air but didn’t hurt anybody,” police sources said.

“A colleague who had gone for patrolling with the accused earlier didn’t question him when he took his gun since he had thought that Bubai was carrying the rifle for safety purpose considering the fact that this area is unsafe at night,” the source added.
