Imphal: It is celebration time in the North eastern part of the country as 12 climbers scaled the highest peak Mt Everest in a span of three days.
This is a peak time for those aspiring to climb Mt Everest and many Indians have managed to reach the top this month.
The first North East Mt Everest expedition, however, has made history.
Ten of its members have reached the peak while two other NCC cadets from Manipur also scaled the peak.
The success story began with N Bidyapati of Manipur, Nima Lama of Arunachal Pradesh and Anand Gurung of Sikkim unfurling the expedition flag on top of Mt Everest on May 17.
The next day, Anshu Jamshenpa of Arunachal Pradesh, N Chingkheinganba of Manipur, David Zohmangaiha of Mizoram, Tarun Saikia of Assam, Kazi Sherpa of Sikkim and Wansuk Myrthong of Meghalaya summited the peak.
Puyamcha Mohon of Manipur continued the mission and summited the peak on Sunday morning around 0715 hrs. He was the tenth person who climbed the peak as part of the first north east expedition.
Two NCC cadets from Manipur — Bidya Chand and Chirom Shangkar — also scaled the peak on Sunday thus making history of 12 climbers from North East scaling the highest peak in a span of three days.
The NE expedition also made history with Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba (16) of Manipur becoming the youngest Indian ever to conquer the world’s highest peak. (UNI)
