SHILLONG: A head teacher of Kynjat Shai LP School Jongskai, Kharang in East Khasi Hills under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) has become a victim of constant harassment due to the interference of the School Managing Committee and the inspector of schools.
The teacher, Kyrpadhunlang Nongkhlaw, a mother of 6 has been teaching in the Kynjat Shai LP School Jongskai, Kharang for the past two years and has not received her salary from September 2010.
According to a letter issued to the director of SSA, CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing alleged that a portion of the salary meant for her and the other teacher was being deducted to pay one Phyrnailin Nongkhlaw who is the secretary of the Managing Committee.
“Despite knowing this, a sub-inspector in the Inspector of schools office told Nongkhlaw that she will not get her salary till a court case is over”, Kharshiing .
Alleging that there is an anomaly in the distribution of mid-day meal to the students of this school, Kharshiing said “If they (managing committee) have written to the bank to cancel distribution of rice, then why is it that the rice for the Kynjatshai school is still allotted to the wholesaler.”
It was mentioned that in 2011, the CSWO had filed a case against Pyrnailin and some others who are involved in this mid-day meal anomaly. “This has taken a toll on the teacher by not paying her the salary but this does not mean that we will withdraw this case,” she said.
The CSWO president also alleged that people involved like the cook are being paid regularly despite the fact that they don’t have to work considering the fact the mid-day meal was not given to the students.
“What is also strange is that rice allotment was collected till September 2011 when the bank was asked to stop payments as the MC was dissolved in December 2010”, she alleged.
Kharshiing further alleged that the school has only less than 30 children yet the SI of the DI, East Khasi Hills has been intimidating Kyrpadhunlang , that her salary should also be deducted to pay for Phyrnailin.
“This is happening in many SSA schools, and many teachers are keeping quiet as they fear of being removed and many Children are hardly getting the midday Meal all over the State”, she added.
The CSWO has demanded immediate payment of salary in full to the teacher and to remove Phyrnailin from the post of secretary of the school managing committee while demanding a probe into this anomaly.
