Three killed in media house attack

 Agartala: Unidentified assailants stormed into the office of a local Bengali daily, Dainik Ganadoot here at around 3 pm on Sunday and brutally stabbed three employees of the organisation to death sparking widespread panic among the people.

Ranjit Chowdhury a manager in the newspaper, Sujit Bhattacharjee, proof reader and Balaram Ghosh, driver, who were shifted to GB Hospital immediately after the tragic incident, were declared brought dead.

Senior police officials including Inspector General (IG) BK Roy, DIG Saurabh Tripathi and SP Bijoy Nag rushed to the spot. Police started investigation into the crime but are yet to derive any clue about the killers.

shortly after 3 pm at Palace Compound (Rajbari) and attacked Ranjit with a dagger and metallic wire killing him in his office chamber upstairs.

Thereafter, the assailants walked down to the ground floor and attacked Sujit who died on the spot. Meanwhile, hearing the screams, Balaram came to the scene and was also murdered brutally.

Editor-proprietor of Ganadoot Patrika, Sushil Chowdhury said that he was the real target of the assailants who massacred the staff of the organisation. Chowdhury had left his chamber at around 2 pm.

Interestingly, he did not receive any threat call from the killers.

Shocked by the incident, employees of the daily were seen screaming in the office premises. Niyati, wife of slain Balaram and her daughter are traumatized after witnessing the horrifying incident.

The Agartala Press Club has strongly condemned the killing and demanded safety and security to the lives of journalists and employees of newspaper and media houses in the state.

Meanwhile, the Shillong Press Club condemned the barbaric killing of three staffers of Dainik Ganadoot.

In a condolence letter sent to Agartala Press Club president Jayanta Bhattacharya, SPC president David Laitphlang said that the inhuman act is highly uncalled for and needs to be denounced by one and all.
