The arrested persons identified as Tadius R Sangma, Chabis R Marak and Raju K Marak were arrested by the police on Saturday morning at 12:15am from Riangdo while they were planning to extort money from coal trucks operators.

According to West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger, the culprits were nabbed with the help of the effected truckers.

“The three culprits were planning to extort money from the truck from Riangdo when the patrolling police managed to nab them”, Nongtnger said adding that on enquiry, it was found out that they were the same gang who were involved in a looting case at Aradonga area, West Khasi Hills in April whereby they managed to loot from as many as 55 trucks.

He however, mentioned that this time, no cash were found from the arrested person as they were caught red-handed before they could loot from any truck parked along the highway.
