Agartala: After more than eight months of suspension, Tripura govt has taken initiative to resume Agartala-Dhaka direct regular bus service at the earliest, Transport Minister Manik Dey said on Tuesday.

Dey pointed out since there was sufficient passengers flow up to Kolkata via Dhaka at an affordable cost; the state govt was also interested to resume the service but just delaying a few weeks to manage the fleet.

Tripura Road Transport Corporation Limited (TRTC) is planning to buy new buses with most modern facilities for Agartala-Dhaka service soon to attract the passengers following increase of travelers’ fleet on the route.

TRTC authorities had been asked to finalize purchase of the bus as soon as possible and required funds would be provided from the state plan fund.

Agartala-Dhaka bus service was stalled since Maitree – the Indian passenger bus used in the route was burnt by an angry mob on September 21 last.

The Dhaka bound Maitree, run by TRTC was set ablaze by an angry mob at Narsindhi near Dhaka from where all 22 passengers including three crews of the bus were recovered safely. (UNI)
