SHILLONG: The BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) telephone boxes which were dismantled by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) last month in the city’s commercial hub, Khyndailad, have been reinstated. This was informed by DP Singh, Chief General Manager (Telecom), BSNL.

The MUDA, which had to remove the boxes in order to make way for the ongoing civil construction work at the extended MUDA complex in the junction, left the commercial establishments, offices, banks and residents without any means of communication for days.

Meanwhile, Singh categorically stated that MUDA did not compensate for reinstallation of the telephone boxes. The BSNL had earlier lodged an FIR against MUDA for the ‘arbitrary removal’ of the boxes while also seeking compensation from MUDA for the damage done.
