National seminar held in Jowai

 JOWAI: Kiang Nangbah Government College Alumni Association organized a day-long national seminar on ‘Water- A source of Life’ at the College Auditorium here on Tuesday.

The District Administration, Planning Department, the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Forest and Environment, PHE Department, Water Resources Department and the Kiang Nangbah Government College Alumni Association jointly sponsored the programme.

Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar, attended the programme as the chief guest.

While inaugurating the Seminar, Dkhar said, “Water is one of the most important elements for all living things and to conserve and to protect our water sources is the duty of each one of us.”

He also lauded the initiatives taken by the Kiang Nangbah Government College Alumni Association to organize the programme.

The inaugural function was chaired by the College Principal while Superintending Engineer Central Water Commission, Government of India, PM Scott (Kharbuli) presented a keynote address on Water- A source of Life.

Chief Executive Officer, Meghalaya Water Foundation, Iban Swer, spoke on the problems and limitations of water conservation in North East India.

Scientist ‘C’ Central Ground Water, Board, Government of India, Ms AR Bhatia spoke on the importance of rain water harvesting.

Renowned columnist cum environmentalist, HH Mohrmen spoke on the topic ‘Protection of drinking water sources’.

Sub-Divisional Officer of the Water Resources Department, Jowai Division, Ms JF Lyngdoh spoke on water quality problems in a coal mining area.
