SHILLONG: The University Grants Commission has appointed NEHU Vice Chancellor AN Rai as the Director of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) based in Bangalore.
Rai confirmed the
appointment and said that he got an official letter from UGC on Wednesday.
As per the letter, Rai has to join the office of NAAC immediately.
The VC will resign from his post soon to facilitate his taking over as the head of NAAC which provides quality markings to the higher educational institutions.
According to sources, the senior most professor of NEHU P. Shukla will be appointed as the acting VC till the President of India appoints a full fledged head of the University.
Rai, who joined NEHU as Vice-Chancellor on October 11, 2010 is leaving the University at a time when the teachers are agitated over the issue of Hills Area Special Allowance.
