NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Students’ Union (WKSU) Mawthadraishan Circle on Thursday issued the government a 15-day deadline to fill up the post of Accountant at Mawthadraishan C & RD Block.
The Union alleged that serving Accountant retired during the Assembly Election this year, and the vacant post is yet to be filled in.
Speaking to mediapersons, S K Bani President WKSU Mawthadraishan Circle said that people in the area complained against the vacancy as they were suffering immensely due to the lack of funds.
Moreover, no one has been given the charge or the authority to discharge the duties of the Accountant. “Old people that are entitled to the Old Age Pension Scheme are suffering a lot as they derive their bread and butter from the scheme. Without an Accountant to sign the cheques, these old persons are starving.”
Bani added that only NREGS and CD schemes were receiving their funds as a separate Accountant had been allotted for these schemes.
Bani said that if the govt failed to fulfill their demands, the Union would take necessary steps.
