SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Thursday questioned the role of the Prasar Bharati in Shillong in clearing the air of confusion amongst many job aspirants who had sat for the examination to the post of transmission executives (TREX) in Prasar Bharati conducted by staff Selection Commission (SSC) in the city last Sunday.
Demanding the Prasar Bharati to hold the results of the examination, the KSU asked the office based in Shillong to resolve the issue by taking it up with the Prasar Bharati Board of members in Delhi.
The matter was followed up by the KSU after many job aspirants had expressed resentment over the procedure in which the examination was conducted wherein candidates were given questions and answer sheets to be answered in Hindi or the recognized languages of the eight scheduled during the examinations.
However, the advertisement clearly specified that the vacant posts are that of 5 posts for Khasi, 4 Garo and 1 Jaintia and that the essential requirement laid down was a “Bachelor’s degree and proficiency in the language relevant to the vacancy.”
Terming the examination as ‘discriminatory’ and ‘demeaning’ to the people of Meghalaya, KSU president Daniel Khyriem put forth the Union’s stance stating that “We will not accept the results if declared and that we will not allow a candidate, if selected, to assume the posts.”
Khyriem said that the student’s body will also write to the board to withhold the results and demand re-advertisement of the posts.
Stating that there are other job aspirants who did not apply for the posts as they cannot read or write Hindi, the KSU leader said the fact is that the posts advertised do not require Hindi to be the essential requirement because the posts are for those who know Khasi, Jaintia and Garo.
The examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on June 2 was divided into two parts-Paper I (either in English or Hindi) and Paper II (either in Hindi or any other eighth schedule language in case English has been chosen as the medium for Paper I).
