SHILLONG: The teaching community in Shillong on Friday registered their strong protest against the Union Minister for Human Resources Development Dr MM Pallam Raju for his refusal to meet them at Raj Bhawan.

A delegation of NEHUTA, NEHUNSA and a group of teachers has sought for appointment from the Union Minister to apprise him of their various issues.

However, according to Joint Action Committee, NEHU spokesperson, SB Prasad, the Minister initially refused to meet them even after an appointment was given to them.

“He refused to meet us as he was having dinner but the question is whether food is important or public is important for a minister,” members of the delegation said.

According to members, they waited for nearly two hours after which the minister was willing to meet only two members of the delegation.

Unhappy with the hospitality of the minister, the delegation refused to minister and left Raj Bhawan. “When we sought appointment, we even gave the list of ten members who were scheduled to meet the minister,” they added while terming minister’s behaviour as bad.
