Berlin: Borrussia Dortmund have turned down Bayern Munich’s move for Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

“Robert Lewandowski will definitely not go to Bayern. That is our final decision. We have now made it clear to Robert and his advisors,” Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watz said in an interview with a local newspaper on Sunday.

Having lost Mario Goetze, one of Dortmund’s star midfielder, to Bayern, the club’s management faces mounting pressure for transferring key players to the arch rivals.

Still with one year remaining on his contract with Dortmund, Lewandowski, had earlier expressed his personal wish to join Bayern Munich during the normal transfer at the end of the season.

Unwilling to lose a possible transfer fee of up to 30 million euros (Rs 230.17 crore) if the contract expires in 2014, Borussia sports director Michael Zorc had confirmed that his club agreed to release the 24-year-old striker earlier. The Pole, who scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga and 10 in the Champions League this season, had already long been widely tipped to join Bayern. (IANS)
