Countdown begins for Prana

Agartala: The countdown for commercial inauguration of Palatana’s first unit began after a SPG team visited Palatana site on Monday.

The SPG team visited Palatana plant site and finalised the route in which President Pranab Mukherjee will enter and exit, said Managing Director of OTPC SK Dube over telephone from Udaipur.

Dube said after getting green signal from the SPG team, the OTPC in consultation with the state government will prepare the inaugural function of the plant. The ONGC Asset Manager who visited Delhi had a meeting with Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) Sudhir Basudeva on the inaugural function of the mega power project.

The SPG team is expected to visit Tripura University, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala and Town Hall.

The president is scheduled to arrive here on June 20 next to attend two convocation programmes- Tripura University and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala.

In the sideline of twin programmes, the president would formally dedicate the first unit of Palatana power plant on June 21.

To make the Palatana programme a grand success, a high level team headed by Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury today visited Palatana site. Besides inspecting the Palatana plant site, Chowdhury had a meeting with authorities of OTPC, ONGC, administration and police.

When contacted, Chowdhury said, “We have visited the Palatana site today and has had a review meeting on the eve of the President visit. Necessary instructions were passed to the concerned officials to take all possible steps to make the programme a grand success”.

Besides Chief Secretary SK Panda, MD of OTPC Dube, District Magistrates of three districts- South, Gomati and Sipahijala were remained present in the meeting. Over ten thousand people are expected to witness the historic inaugural function of the Palatana’s first unit, according to sources.
