SHILLONG: The KSU has demanded the appointment of a local as the new Vice Chancellor of NEHU.
“We would want a local person to lead the university. We feel that a person from the State can serve NEHU better,” KSU education secretary Donald V Thabah said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
He said that the State has qualified people like Prof D R Syiemlieh, who is currently a member of Union Public Service Commission, who could lead the university.
“He (Dr Syiemlieh) has earlier served at various positions in NEHU including Pro Vice Chancellor and also as Controller of Examinations,” Thabah said.
Besides Syiemlieh, the KSU also backed Prof M Myrboh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Shillong campus and Prof Eugene Thomas, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Tura Campus to succeed Prof AN Rai
