Prof Amitabha De new Director, IIM Shillong

 Shillong: After nearly a year, since Prof AK Dutta, retired in July last year, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong gets a regular director. Prof. Amitabha De took over as the second Director of IIM Shillong on 17 June, 2013. Prof. De was Director at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai before joining as Director, IIM Shillong.

Those who have worked with Prof De say he is a courageous, well meaning, determined man, who took on certain wrongdoings in NITIE and cleaned some of it up at a fair amount of personal risk. He also puts the students needs before all else.

Prof De did his M. Sc. and Ph. D. from the University of Calcutta, West Bengal, India and has widespread expertise in ergonomics, human factors engineering, biomechanics, executive work and work stress, and human factors in technology management.

Prior to joining IIM Shillong, Prof De has undertaken various research projects sponsored by Government of India and various industries related to his expertise. He has also taken on various consulting assignments guiding corporate houses and encompassing industries like manufacturing, petroleum, airline, and chemicals. He was also member in two national committees in the Ministry of Labour & Welfare, Government of India.

A teacher in spirit, Prof Amitabha De, with an experience of twenty-nine years in teaching, research, and administration, believes in working together for the greater good of the students.

NITIE is recognized as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). Over the years, NITIE has transformed its image from being an institute that provided Industrial Training to an institute that produces brilliant minds for all domains of management and technology and has earned its place amongst India’s ‘Ivy League’ B-Schools.

NITIE has also consistently featured among the top 10 business schools in all major rankings. With such robust credentials and experience behind him, IIM Shillong a relatively new Institution is set to make great strides under Prof De’s leadership.
