NONGSTOIN: The Western Youth Federation under the leadership of its President P S Shangrit recently met the PWD Minister Sngewbahlang Dhar and the Chief Engineer (National Highway) H W Momin to pursue the repair of the Nongstoin- Sohpian road.

Speaking to media persons, Shangrit said “Both the Minister and the Chief Engineer had assured that they would speak to the engineers and SDO concerned and ask them to repair the Nongstoin- Sohpian road immediately.”

“I am utterly shocked and surprised that all officers of Nongstoin pass by this stretch of road, yet not one of them had taken the responsibility to do something about it. If this is how the officers act what do they expect from the public,” Shangrit underscored.

He added that earlier several NGOs had threatened a road blockade along this stretch as the road had become unfit for plying. However, as the PWD authorities assured that they would repair it within a month, the blockade was called off. Shangrit said that the PWD authorities merely repaired the road halfway and abandoned the work.

Earlier in April, the FKJGP Nongstoin Circle had threatened a road blockade if the same road was not repaired immediately. Willis Syiem General Secy FKJGP Nongstoin Circle had then said “It takes more than an hour to traverse along this seven kilometer road, not to mention the bumpy ride and the amount of destruction it costs to the vehicles. If one were to ply along this road one would witness several vehicles broken down on the road causing additional hazard for the commuters.”
