SHILLONG: Chief Secretary WMS Pariat on Monday said that the State is getting the details on how the proposed dam construction along river Krih would affect Meghalaya and its residents.

The Chief Secretary also clarified that the proposed dam construction over river Krih is not an Assam Government initiative but it is a Brahmaputra Board project.

The proposed dam construction has been castigated by anti dam protestors and local residents including Indigenous Biodiversity and Social and Cultural Welfare Organization (IBSWO)

Pariat stated that it was a small project and it is in the pipeline of the Ministry of Water Resources and the project is proposed to be undertaken by Brahmaputra Board.

Meanwhile reacting to a query about the proposed opposition of Bangladesh to Meghalaya Power projects over the river Mawphu and Myntdu, WMS Pariat said that the State Government has not received any complaints either from the Central Government or the Bangladeshi Government.

“Myntdu Leshka project conforms to parameters of both countries and if there is any reference we will take a view on it,” he added.
