SHILLONG: A team of paragliders from the Meghalaya Paragliding Association have reached Uttarakhand to assist in the rescue mission in the nature-ravaged state.

Informing this on Monday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that the team left Shillong on Sunday and reached Uttarakhand the same evening.

“Their services will be utilized to reach to those places inaccessible to helicopters,” Dr Sangma said.

Terming the incident as a national tragedy, Dr Sangma said that he has asked all the Congress legislators of the State to donate their one-month salary to the affected victims, adding that he will also write to all the 60 MLAs of the State Assembly to express their solidarity with the affected victims through donations.

The Chief Minister also urged the public to donate for this cause and to address their donations to the Chief Minister’s relief fund.

Expressing concern over the report of six members of a family from Shillong remaining untraced since the tragedy struck, Dr Sangma said the State Government has sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand seeking its help and support to trace the missing family.

“Necessary steps are being taken to trace the missing family and we pray and hope that they will return back safe,” the Chief Minister said.
