Lajong sign Cameroon striker

SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong Football Club has on Tuesday officially signed Cameroon International Charles Edoa Nga for the I-League season 2013-14.

The 23-year-old Edoa played for the Cameroon U-17 national football team in 2006 and the U-20 national football team in 2008.

The young striker joined Union Douala (football club) in 2008 which competes in the MTN Elite One of Cameroon. During his first season at the top level, he went on to score two goals and also gained immense exposure and experience from playing in the 2009 CAF Confederations Cup. The Cameroonian who was in an impeccable form performed well during his second and third season with Union Douala. He also earned himself the accolade of being the top scorer of the club in 2011.

Edoa, who is known to have the ability to play on either flanks as a striker said, “I am very happy and looking forward to playing for Shillong Lajong FC which I think is one of the few Clubs which has a really huge fan base in India. So my main focus is to go there, play well for the team and bring joy to the fans because I know how much they love their Club and their football.”

Shillong Lajong General Secretary Larsing Ming Sawyan said, “Charles is a great signing for us, and my gratitude goes to Libero Sports for bringing us a quality player. He is a player with good experience at club and international level with Cameroon in spite of his young age and we believe that he will add significant quality to our squad this coming season.”

Lajong had recently signed Trinidad and Tobago international Cornell Glen, also a striker, for a one-year deal.
