Shillong: The CID has sealed the residence of the elusive Chancellor of CMJ University Chandra Mohan Jha here, officials said on Wednesday.

Two of his personal vehicles were also seized from the posh ‘Swasti Niwas’ compound.

Jha, who was on the run since Governor R S Mooshahary blew off the lid of fake PhD scam involving the private varsity, was asked to appear before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on July 19 next.

While four officials, including Registrar Mrinal Kanti Deb and his deputy Premlal Rai, were arrested for alleged fraud, two of the campuses of the varsity have been sealed.

Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has appointed Tezpur University Vice Chancellor Mihir K Chaudhury as chairman of a nine-member committee to probe the functioning of the university. (PTI)
