TURA: Armed miscreants kidnapped a supervisor engaged with the railway project in North Garo Hills from near Mendipather on Tuesday afternoon.

Two men in a motorcycle came up to J Narayan Rai (60) while he was inspecting the rail tracks in a place between Tilapara and Bakenang village at around 3:45pm and forcibly took him away.

They were reportedly followed by three other men from a distance.

The victim hailed from Muzzafarpur in Bihar and was engaged as a supervisor with a firm that was undertaking the rail project to connect North Garo Hills with the rest of the country.

North Garo Hills police say that the kidnappers took away their captive towards Assam to escape police operations inside Meghalaya.

Previous incidents of abduction have also followed a similar pattern and security forces believe Tuesday’s incident was the handiwork of small time dacoits and armed gangs some of which operate in the area preying on unsuspecting victims.
