Untitled-6 copySHILLONG: In less than 24 hours after the outlawed GNLA chief Champion Sangma was attacked by the inmates of the Shillong District jail, the state government has removed the Director General (Prisons) Kulbir Kishan from the post and appointed Inspector-General F D Sangma in his post, though on a temporary basis.

Kishan, who was among five senior IPS officers tipped to take over as state Director-General of Police, will however, continue to hold charge of Home Guards and Civil Defense.

According to an official order, acting Director General of Police Prem Singh will replace Kishan as DG (Prisons).

The GNLA chairman and four others were injured in the scuffle that broke out between the jail inmates on Wednesday morning.

It is learnt that that order to remove Kishan was issued on Wednesday evening and Kishan handed over charge to Sangma on Thursday.
