Six Shillong pilgrims confirmed dead

 SHILLONG: Six members of a Shillong family, on a pilgrimage to the Kedarnath shrine, have died in Uttarakhand disaster, a family member confirmed on Monday.

The six missing members of the family – Shigan Agarwal (80), Kasturi Devi Agarwal (70) Satya Narayan Agarwal (58), Hiramani Agarwal (50), Mahabir Prasad Agarwal (47) and Saroj Agarwal (45). They were residents of Garikhana area.

One witness from Jaipur informed that he had met the family few minutes before the catastrophe, K Agarwal, the family member, said.

“The witness told us that a huge wall of water came at a huge intensity to the place where they were staying and he managed to climb up to a hill but after two days when he came back he did not find anybody there and it is feared that they were swept away,” he said adding that a few members Agarwal family went to Uttarakhand to search them.

“We conducted our search in hospitals but did not find them,” Agarwal told The Shillong Times.

A kin of the missing family earlier met East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal and submitted the names of the missing persons along with their photographs.

Though the district administration provided the details of the family to Uttarakhand Government but no information came from Uttarakhand Government.

When contacted, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that there is no confirmation of their death and no intimation has come from Uttarakhand Government about the family.
