Agartala: Tripura govt has requested Air India and Jet Airways authority to resume their evening service in Kolkata-Agartala-Kolkata and Guwahati-Agartala-Silchar-Guwahati routes soon.
In a letter to Air India Chairman and Managing Director, Transport Secretary Kishore Ambuly demanded to resume ATR service in both the routes in the late hours, so that the passengers from Agartala, Guwahati and Kolkata could return to the destinations on the day itself.
“Since Tripura people are frequently flying to Guwahati and Kolkata and have to stay back because of absence of evening connectivity that also increases the suffering of the passengers,” Ambuly mentioned in the letter.
He also pointed out that Air India had withdrawn ATR service on the routes in January last that put the passengers into trouble because all movements in Guwahati and Kolkata from Agartala and to Agartala had been stopped after 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
Similarly, after withdrawal of ATR service, connectivity between Agartala and Silchar had permanently been stopped and that created problem in fast movement of the passengers, which was required to be restore immediately, Ambuly stated.
“AIR India being a public enterprise, is need to start early morning flight from Agartala to Kolkata on daily basis besides, an evening connectivity between Agartala and Delhi via Kolkata, so that the movement could be faster among the destinations,” he explained.
In a separate letter to Chairman Jet Airways Naresh Joel, Ambuly requested him to resume service in the state, “Jet Airways had connectivity between Kolkata-Agartala and Agartala-Guwahati routes but suddenly Agartala-Guwahati was suspended and late afternoon flight from Kolkata to Agartala was advanced to 3 o’clock in the afternoon last year and finally in February the service has been cancelled permanently that seriously affected the people of the state,” he added.
