State without Prisons chief

SHILLONG: The Home (Prison) department would have to function without a Director General (DG) for atleast another month.

The newly appointed DG (Prison) Prem Singh, who is supposed to take charge on Monday, has sought extension of leave for another month.

“The official notification for the appointment of Prem Singh as the new DG (Prison) has already been issued,” official sources informed on Sunday.

According to the sources, IG (Prison) FD Sangma would continue to look after the department till Singh formally takes over as the DG at the end of his leave.
