SHILLONG: Almost two months after ex-Governor of Meghalaya, RS Mooshahary issued a series of directives against the functioning of CMJ University the State CID has still not been able to trace Chandra Mohan Jha, the chancellor of the University.
A recent statement of Additional Director General of Police (in charge of CID), SK Jain, that Jha would be arrested at ‘an appropriate time’ has perplexed many as this gives an indication that for arresting Jha, the CID sleuths would take their own time and moreover, this will subsequently ensure sufficient time for Jha to come and surrender and also to get bail.
The CMJ University’s present scandal is the third one in a row as Jha had been arrested in 2011 after the Housing and Urban Development Corporation filed a case but was later released on bail. In another case the CBI had filed a charge-sheet against Jha – who was the Secretary of North Eastern India Trust for Education and Development (NEITED) for his involvement in the alleged misappropriation of public money for implementation of a scheme called ‘Integrated e-education and Tele health programme for 10 Schools in Meghalaya.’
Upon enquiry, senior officials of the State Police department refused to comment on the progress of the investigation.
It may be mentioned that in connection with CID Police Station Case No. 2(4) 2013 U/s 420/406/466 IPC in the State versus accused CM Jha and others, the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shillong passed the order dated May 13 for the issue of a non-bailable warrant of arrest against him.
Meanwhile, KSU Education Secretary, Donald Thabah has expressed his satisfaction with the regulatory board which has done a lot in analysing the validity of private universities in the State and said that they will be submitting the findings to the government at the earliest. However, these finding mighty not be made available in the public domain.
He mentioned that meetings with the top brass were pending and this will be held soon to decide on the course of action and also work out ways to address the grievances of the ailing students.
Thabah has also declared void, rumours that classes have resumed in some departments of CMJ.
