Tura bridge collapse

SHILLONG: After the National People’s Party (NPP), the Civil Society Women’s Organization has blamed corruption over the death of a Junior Engineer in Williamnagar where an under construction bridge collapsed.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing expressed concern over the rampant corruption in various departments and the callousness of the authorities to curb them.

According to CSWO, the bridge in Williamnagar was left unfinished for many years and there are many such bridges all over the State and the money seems to disappear. CSWO also asked the local NGOs to file an FIR against the PWD while asking the department to take responsibility for the death.

The CSWO accused the contractors of too eager to please the Politicians to get the contracts and pay bribe right from the top to the bottom, with clear disregard for life. “We urge people to complain to the State Vigilance Commissioner, who is the Chief Secretary with regards to the rampant corruption by his people in Governance,” she added
