Rally against growing atrocities on women

 SHILLONG: Expressing concern over the regular and increased instances of violence and crime committed against women in the country and in the respective States in the North East region, different social organizations will hold a public rally on July 25 from 11am onwards at the Dinam Hall, Students’ Field in Jaiaw Langsning and subsequently, take out a procession through the main thoroughfare of Shillong City up to the Parking Lot near Horse shoe Building, Central Ward in Shillong.

Organizations including the North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) along with the Indigenous Biodiversity & Social Welfare Organisation (IBSWO), Meghalaya Youth Foundation (MYF), Rilum Foundation (RF), Impulse NGO Network, Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) and others will be participating in the rally and the procession.

The press release observed that several inappropriate acts are taking place despite the fact that laws and statute books are very much there, viz. Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act, various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act and many others.

Letters of invitation to participate in the rally and procession have been distributed to most educational institutions, including colleges and universities, traditional institutions, religious/faith institutions, Church Women Fellowships, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non Government Organisations.
