NONGPOH: The KSU North Khasi Hills unit on Tuesday demanded the removal of Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akashdeep accusing him of being ‘anti-Meghalaya’.
Taking strong note of the Deputy Commissioner’s statement that the lower primary school in Sabuda, the kitchen shed of which was vandalized by Assam Police personnel, is located 2 km inside the neighbouring state, KSU North Khasi Hills district president Ferdynald K Kharkamni alleged that Akashdeep was not aware of the boundaries of the district and “does not do any homework before making such statements.”
“His actions are emboldening authorities from Assam to encroach into areas which are still under dispute,” the KSU leader said.
“We want a Deputy Commissioner who is well versed with the style of functioning and jurisdiction of the traditional institutions,” he added. Kharkamni wondered how the concerned school was sanctioned SSA and midday meal schemes under Meghalaya despite falling within Assam as claimed by the Deputy Commissioner.
“The Deputy Commissioner is the district chairman of the SSA and midday meal schemes. This indicates that he signs the official files blindly,” the KSU leader alleged.
“The funds for construction of kitchen shed under midday meal scheme was allotted to the school after due approval from the Deputy Commissioner and after proper certification of land documents the funds were released and construction started accordingly,” Kharkamni alleged adding that he was certain Akashdeep was not even aware of the exact location of the school.
He also asked the deputy commissioner to clarify from where the Assam border started.
